How Traditional Taoist Medicine Can Liberate Healthcare From The Patriarchy

Botanarchy honors the roots of Pre-Capitalist Medicines, providing compassionate, humanistic healthcare that is:

*Tethered to natural rhythms and embracing the cycles of change

*Rooted in natural models that do not suppress the true nature of the body, enhancing connection to both the microcosm of the body and the macrocosm of the earth

*Based on thousands of years of observing + revering nature, not heterosexual cis white male bodies

*Rooted in valuing the masculine + feminine equally, seeing them as interdependent, working together, flowing back and forth into each other

*Focused on balancing the masculine + feminine polarity inside of all of us regardless of biological sex or gender

* Aware that everything exists in relationship

*Insistent on inner authority

*Never shaming of choice

*Pro-autonomy, helping us recover the capacity to taste and feel and sense for ourselves

*Non-exploitive of natural resources and the body en masse

*Refusing to industrialize the rhythms + cycles of the body

*Against positing ‘wellness’ as maximizing our output in a capitalist labor market by increasing motivation + productivity

*Refusing to measure health by our ability to work harder, work longer, make more money, increase our sexual potency, feel better with less sleep, compete with each other, push beyond our means and capacity

*Helping men cultivate and value receptivity, gentleness, and subtlety

*Empowering mothers and working families with the tools to take care of ourselves and our communities where the system has failed to protect and sustain us

*Not based on an unattainable goal of ‘healing’, valuing the spectrum of human experience instead

*Individualizing treatment for every body as a unique emanation of the Tao, recognizing that our tao can be thwarted by multiple forms of systemic discrimination that may block us from thriving in our personhood

*Supporting patients in finding their own Tao, recovering the self not corrupted by culture

*Acknowledging the emotions as aspects of disease

*Embracing emotions, and not shaming emotional states

*Against the immediate medicating of emotions that don’t fit the dominate narratives of health and wellness

*Not fear-based and disease-driven

*Oriented towards freeing us from a reliance upon privatized healthcare and allopathic methods that often harm the body and undermine its innate, elegant intelligence

*Age-positive, committed to providing compassionate healthcare for all stages of womxnhood, valuing the menstrual cycle and menopause as both sacred passages

In health and solidarity,

Carolyn
